Let’s not limit #InternationalDayofYoga to an annual jamboree. I practice yoga on a daily basis, I urge upon all of you to do so as an integral part of your life. #YogaDay is incomplete without remembering #SriAurobindo

The development of Yoga primarily as a postural discipline that drives better health emerged in late 19th / early 20th centuries when the traditions of Yoga interacted with Western disciplines of gymnastics and physical exercise
The great statesman C Rajagopalachari (Rajaji) in 1968, in his typically conservative way, bemoaned the rise of Postural Yoga in an article - reproduced below - https://t.co/GUnpzM82RB
Here's the concluding extract - https://t.co/uLyp7FXAi1
I wouldn't go as far as Rajaji does in condescending towards Postural Yoga. It has its merits. But it is worthwhile to take a step back and rediscover what Yoga really ought to mean and rescue it from those who wish to market it as a panacea for all bodily ills
Very nicely written... There is one more, if one is interested, the *integral yoga* as explained by Sri Aurobindo, which according to him was different from the yoga of Krishna. https://t.co/145xPKWsuI
#Yoga of #Patanjali, #Aurobindo etc that led to the discovery of the Divine is now a health hamper. https://t.co/t5IaAzA815
Sri Aurobindo observed: “Indian yoga is experimental psychology. Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra, the Upanishads ~ these and the Saiva Siddhanta treatises ~ furnish pioneering examples of experimental psychology.”
" Yoga is Life - Life is Yoga ! "
Integral yoga finds all life conscious or subconscious a yoga, defines the term yoga as a methodised effort towards self-perfection by the expression of the secret potentialities latent in the being and highest condition of victory !
Let us go through all the 1,028 Sūktas of the Rig-Veda based on #SriAurobindo's commentary, written for His journal 'Arya'.
Today marks the 105th anniversary of the announcement of Arya's publication (21 June 1914).

This DAY Last YEAR - Dharmic principles form the bedrock upon which Indic civilization has thrived and hence need to be propagated as well as defended. https://t.co/JTfPwb3kHv
In Vedas the summer solstice marks the day Indra slays Vritra and releases the seven rivers to flow into the sea. Indra is the Purusha or seer. Vritra is the power of ignorance (avidya). The seven cosmic streams merge into the ocean of Consciousness. A clearly yogic metaphor.
The oldest statues of Lord Buddha show Him worshipped by Indra & Brahma - & Indra is honored in all Buddhist sutras of all sects. Buddhists and Hindus have common ground to forge an alliance which would link India to super developed powerhouse nations Japan, China & Tiger Asia! https://t.co/e56NOl4xgn
When people say that Hindus need to be more aggressive, rigid, hierarchical, violent and intolerant to 'save' Hinduism, I realise they want Hinduism to be less Hindu and more..... well you know 😀
If you knew history you would know 'violent' Jain kings like Kharavela and 'violent' Buddhist kings like Dharmapala ..... binaries are for the stupid

‘New India is motivated by the noble thoughts of Sree Narayana Guru, will move forward towards the ideals of Gurudev Tagore’: President Ram Nath Kovind in his joint address to the parliament https://t.co/y3J6zCqJVN
Postcolonial theory allows upper-caste intellectuals to maintain privilege in both India and the US. The Indian educational systems whose benefits disproportionately accrue to the upper castes allowed these intellectuals to make the transition to the west. 10/16
Once there, shocked at not receiving the privilege they had back home, postcolonial theory was invented. This theory was used to critique white elites, since it allowed them to position themselves as the brown voice of the subaltern in western academia (e,g, Spivak, Bhabha) 11/16
The grasping desire for power among these scholars is reflected in the empty and ethically hollow nature of their theoretical production. The obfuscatory language that masquerades as sophistication is just a way to hide power. Don't fall for it. 16/16
What makes some brains more resistant to decline? The brain starts shrinking around the age of 40, and how resistant you are is likely to be linked to how much of a mental buffer you have in your brain. Here’s how can you boost your mental buffer https://t.co/RvE32ixzdp

Raibhya is a great Vedic Rishi in our Sanatana tradition. In #GirishKarnad's eyes, he's a lewd old man who lusts after his own daughter in law.
And Karnad is hailed a great litterateur. This is the damage they've done. How does one undo this? https://t.co/9eXsLqF4n4
Roads are the places where, during our commutes, we build up a frenzied, frazzled and annoyed state of mind, which we carry to the other spheres of our lives, especially, offices and homes.
Traveler, your footprints are the only road, nothing else. Traveler, there is no road
; you make your own path as you walk. As you walk, you make your own road,
