Everything is part of Isha, good, bad, and ugly

Seeing Through Technology: Heidegger, Turing, and the Ontological Limits of Information Technology Law - Shivam Kapoor, Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla

This article argues that contemporary information technology law confronts a foundational philosophical problem which most regulatory frameworks have not yet adequately acknowledged. Drawing primarily on Martin Heidegger's philosophy of technology, particularly his concepts of revealing (aletheia), Enframing (Gestell), and standing-reserve (Bestand), and supplemented by the philosophical implications of Alan Turing's Imitation Game, the article contends that modern digital systems do not merely assist human activity. They actively structure the conditions under which human beings understand themselves, others, and social reality. Contemporary legal systems, by focusing predominantly on harmful outcomes - privacy violations, algorithmic bias, and data misuse - risk regulating only the surface effects of a far deeper transformation: the ontological enframing of human life through digital infrastructure.

The article examines how algorithms determine visibility, how datafication converts persons into standing-reserve, how Turing's Imitation Game has been realised at scale in digital systems that blur the boundary between representation and reality, and how law itself increasingly operates through the same technological logic it seeks to govern. The central argument is that effective regulation of technology cannot remain blind to the question of what technology reveals, and what it conceals, about human beings and social life.

  • The German Romantic poet and philosopher Novalis famously wrote, "Philosophy is really homesickness—the urge to be at home everywhere."
  • On a Reddit philosophy forum, users agreed that this perspective treats humans as existentially displaced creatures. We study philosophy, look for meaning, and build frameworks because we feel fundamentally separated from the universe. We are "never at home," so we use thought to try and turn the cold, external world into a place of familiar understanding. [4, 5]

The Literary Genius of Isha Upanishad: Shloka 8 Pada 4

याथातथ्यत: To do as desired

अर्थान् To the Universe or things

व्यदधात्त् Creates or does

शाश्वतीभ्य: Eternally

समाभ्य: For years

The last pada shows us a very significant aspect of Isha. Everything is done as needed, perfectly, appropriately. The Isha is perfect and Isha’s actions are perfect

This brings to an end the second section of the Isha from Shloka 4-8 which describes the Isha’s nature and qualities

Isha is Unity. There is no duality. Everything is part of Isha, good, bad and ugly. Isha resides in everything but remains utterly pure. The next Shloka will powerfully challenge your understanding. Remember this, if the Isha is One then the entire Universe is One. Nothing can be excluded, even what appears to us as dark or repugnant. Don’t forget!

Jean Baudrillard: A Study in Cultural Metaphysics - Charles Levin

Levin's main contribution, the concept of "cultural metaphysics" used to describe Baudrillard's entire project, is quite useful; it is a lot more evocative than "cultural theory" and it is a shame it has not been taken up elsewhere. Other elements of the book, such as his reading of simulation as what humans have always been up to, and his reading of Baudrillard as a liberal ironist, make a lot of safe sense. Other passages range from the overextended (the survey of, well, all of philosophical thought), to the somewhat outdated (later speculations on the future of critical and postmodern theory), to the genuinely funny and amusing (the chapter on Canada). Good use is made of Baudrillard's published work to that point, with somewhat of a bias for his early period, as well as selections from the murky depths of 80s/mid-90s theory. Rough chapters withstanding, Levin's book is nonetheless one of the most consistently engaging and insightful monographs on Baudrillard which, while almost entirely sympathetic to Baudrillard, still takes a look at him from a productive distance (Levin is a psychoanalyst).

The books explains Baudrillard's use of such concepts as symbolic exchange, simulation, death, seduction, illusion, evil and virtual reality. Attention is also give to the relationship of Baudrillard's ideas to cultural studies, communications theory, feminism, psychoanalysis, postmodernism, and aesthetics.
